Why-oh-Why

What is wrong with us? I say us. We. Photojournalists. I am not exempt. Why does it seem like we're never truly happy? Never fully satisfied? Always looking forward to the next move? Always bemoaning the contests we didn't win? Complaining about how poorly things were edited, cropped and then ran? Is it just the people that the field attracts? Is it just the nature of the beast? Do we all have some similar obsessive-compulsive-perfectionist gene that is simultaneously our best and worst trait? Are we all tortured artists that need chaos to create?

Why?

  1. just change the questions into statements. maybe that's your answer.

    for example:

We are all tortured artists that need chaos to create.

  3. all i want is for the company i work for to replace the people who leave the paper. and if that ever happens, all I'll want is something else. :) you're right, though. I think maybe it's because we're all idealists in some way. We think things SHOULD be a certain way. Whatever that WAY is, is completely subjective.

  4. m, frankly all i want is to have shit done right. i don't care too much if my pics are not used huge, if they get cropped some. i do hate it when i tell someone their pic will run tomorrow and then the image doesn't. and i hate to see the limited print space used in top 40 b-s stories. creative people are hardly ever satisfied, no matter what. i'm not a perfectionist. today i saw a lot of photos selling for a ton of money in miami's art basel's foto miami. i think p-j's need to whore their work to galleries and the arts crowd more. there's no comparisson between the quality of work created on a daily basis by many in this profession and some of the stuff that sells for thousands of dollars.

  5. We hand our work over to be used many different ways and after all those fingerprints are left on it...it's still OUR name under the photo!
